This semester I have been placed in a 3rd grade classroom at Nevils Elementary School in Bulloch County. It's a different environment then what I've been placed in before. At first I was a little hesitant to be in 3rd grade, but now after having been a part of the classroom for a few weeks, I absolutely love it!
3rd graders are so different from Kindergarten-2nd Grade. They have a larger vocabulary and definately are not afraid to say what they are thinking or simply do what they please. The time while I am there, I observe their Math lesson..this is a subject that I lack personal strength in! For some reason Math just isn't my thing. However, in this 3rd grade Math class I feel like a genius! I have become more involved in Math as a whole and in general.
I have always been a fan of 2nd grade and that is where I hope to be when my time has to come to teach! 2nd grade is where my heart is, and that is all thanks to my cousin Ashley, who is a teacher at Grovetown Elementary in Columbia County. I have helped in her classroom so many times, that I simply fell in love with the whole school, teachers and even the principal. I wish so badly that I could teach her, but it is simply too far of a drive from my hometown of Waynesboro. However, I do love the school system in Burke County, and plan on teaching at Waynesboro Primary.

Isn't it crazy how much children change from second grade to third grade. Their vocabulary increases so much. Thats neat that your cousin inspired you to be a teacher, and I bet you really enjoy helping in her classroom because of that. Good luck this semester!
ReplyDeleteI was placed in first grade last semester and am in third grade this semester and I am also seeing the same differences. It is amazing how different they become even into fourth grade. They really do say what is on their mind. I like being able to have more of a conversation with the third graders vs my conversations with first graders. The one think that I dislike about third grade is that when they don't want or need your help, they let you know or just give you a funny look. It's funny. I hope that you are able to get a job at Waynesboro Primary and teach 2nd grade. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI have only been in a first and fifth grade classroom, but am hoping to be placed in a third class next time. I have seen them very you and older but want to experiance them in the middle. I feel like each grade is so different from the next and am open up to anything. You sound like you are really enjoying this experiance which is what makes someone a great teacher! good luck!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you! Higher grades are alot different than kindergarten. I was placed in a 5th grade class last semster and I am in a kindergarten class this semester. The atmospheres are completely different. Good luck this semster!
ReplyDeleteI dont know why you think your not good at Math. You didnt show any weakness during that IQ test I administered to you yesterday! You are going to be such a great teacher in Waynesboro..ha. Just enjoy your time in Statesboro with me and keep learning lots in your 3rd grade class.
ReplyDeleteI was placed in a third grade classroom at Screven County Elementary last semester and I am placed in a second grade classroom now. I absolutely love both of them. I feel like I would not like the upper grades near as much compared to the lower ones but I am trying to have an open mind about it! The younger kids are just so much fun. See you in class!
ReplyDeleteI want to teach a third grade class when I graduate. I was placed in a third grade class during my PPB at Screven and I enjoyed it so much. You are right they are not afraid to speak what is on their minds at the time. I know I don't want to teach the babies (Pre-K thru 2nd) once I am finished but I will if I have to. I like the older children better because I feel like I don't have to repeat myself one hundred times before I see a reaction.
ReplyDeleteI also want to teach 2nd or 3rd grade after I graduate. I am now in a 5th grade classroom and its just not the same. Going into a different environment is always chaotic and nerve wracking, but those are the best situations to learn about yourself. I hope you have fun and be open to new ideas about subjects and grade levels.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how children change so much from grade to grade level! That's one of the reasons I love observing different grade levels so I can compare how students act and their maturity to the other grade levels! Although kindergarten students will keep my on my feet I think I will enjoy the challenge!
